  • show the amount as a separate earnings line when appropriate
  • include it in the payroll register and gross-pay total

That means vacation pay is not just a leave-policy idea. It becomes a real payroll amount when it is paid through the run.

An employee takes approved vacation time during a semi-monthly payroll period.

The pay stub may show:

  • regular pay: $2,100
  • vacation pay: $420

Payroll uses the separate vacation-pay line to show that part of the employee’s earnings for the period came from paid vacation treatment rather than ordinary hours worked.
